It can be hard to stay positive with everything we are witnessing these days. In Minneapolis, we saw yet another horrific reminder of injustice faced by Black Americans. We have seen peaceful protests across the country derailed by violence, and a deep recession brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten the financial security of millions of families.

These are tough times, but we are not powerless. There is a collective desire across our country to foment real and lasting change. Here is how Barack Obama summed up this moment on Medium:

I recognize that these past few months have been hard and dispiriting — that the fear, sorrow, uncertainty, and hardship of a pandemic have been compounded by tragic reminders that prejudice and inequality still shape so much of American life. But watching the heightened activism of young people in recent weeks, of every race and every station, makes me hopeful. If, going forward, we can channel our justifiable anger into peaceful, sustained, and effective action, then this moment can be a real turning point in our nation’s long journey to live up to our highest ideals.

Let’s get to work.

Obama also linked to a number of resources to learn more about the root causes of racial injustice, and several organizations doing something about it.

There are no easy answers, but here’s one small way we can help. Summitry matches donations of either time or money to 501(c)(3) non-profits up to a total $500 per employee per year.

In addition, the impact of COVID-19 on our community continues. Together, we have already raised significant funds for LifeMoves and Meals on Wheels of San Francisco and Alameda County. Other local groups helping feed those in need include:
